This is gonna be a short post of a meal I had recently. Nested in Westin Hotel, Prego is one of the better and well known Italian restaurants in Kuala Lumpur.
It is also the place to go to if you have some serious cravings for Italian food. And unlike Pizza Uno, it placed itself as the higher end of Italian cuisine.
As usual, like any other fine dining restaurants, fresh loaf of bread was served while waiting / upon seated. Crusty on the outside and pillow soft on the inside, it went well with the tangy tomato sauce and / or olive oil-vinegar dip.
The Calamari Fritti Salsa Tartara (RM30) fell short of being moreish. Despite its delish tartar sauce, the fried squids were slight chewy texture. The batter was fine; crunchy and light. It’s just the squids that pulled everything down.
With my fondness for broad pasta, it’s no brainer that I opted for Pappardelle Al Ragu (RM56). The adequately thin pasta sheets were cooked nicely and coated evenly with slight tangy tomato-based sauce. There was abundance of fork-tender braised goat meat to go alongside with the pasta but due to tardiness of kitchen staff / cook, there were a couple of tiny bones hidden in the braised meat which was kinda off-putting to the comforting pasta dish.
All in all, Prego managed to live up to its hype. The meal was alright if it were not for the chewy squids and tiny bones. The ambiance was great with attentive staffs fulfilling customer’s request. It is definitely worth going back again…
