My first visit to Antipodean was late last year. Then, it was already famous and the cafe was packed to the brim with hungry customers so much so that one requires a lot of luck and patience to dine there. For the uninitiated, Antipodean is well known for its hearty food (and breakfast!) and its coffee. Whether it’s worth the wait is up to one’s discretion.

But thankfully, due to pure coincidence, I stumbled upon this branch when I was in Kuala Lumpur for some personal business. I was skeptical at first due to its location but all that was dismissed by this blog post.

Antipodean's Menu Board, Menara Tan & Tan Kuala Lumpur

Nested at a corner lot in Menara Tan and Tan, it was opened for business not long ago (roughly a week before the Chinese New Year). The vicinity is just as big as the one in Bangsar and it has the same infamous menu board on its wall inside the cafe. Tables and chairs are arranged close to one another to maximise its tight space.

I have not tried their main courses because all my visits, just like this one, were in the morning and hence, for their breakfast.

Pork Bacon (add-on)Pork Bacon (RM8)

Consisted of scrambled eggs, pork bacon / sausage, hash brown, sautéed mushrooms, baked beans and toast, the portion of Big Breakfast was bigger than usual. The eggs were done nicely; velvety yet texturised. I didn’t really like the sausage though and the hash brown tasted rather bland. However, the mushrooms were wonderful; garlicky, firm and juicy.

Scrambled Eggs on Croissant (with pork bacon) by AntipodeanScrambled Eggs on Croissant with Pork Bacon (RM18)

Scrambled eggs on croissant (with pork bacon) was a simple affair. Hidden between the eggs and the flaky pastry were rocket leaves… which is something I don’t enjoy due to its distinctive yet subtle taste.

Banana Pancakes with Butterscotch by Antipodean,Banana Pancakes with Butterscotch (RM16)

The Banana Pancakes with Butterscotch resembled somewhat ordinary homemade dish with a twist. The pancakes were soft and fluffy with bits of real banana in them. Surprisingly, the sauce wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be.

Iced Cappuccino coffee and Orange Juice by AntipodeanIced Cappuccino (RM10) and Fresh Orange Juice (RM9)

For their iced cappuccino, I do not have any comments because it was decent with a good ratio of coffee to milk. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and it’s as good as La Bodega’s.

Overall, it was a good hearty meal. I like the ambiance as it was calm and quiet unlike the other branch in Bangsar. Parking wise, it is definitely easier during weekends but that can’t be said during weekdays. Despite its location (and distance), I wouldn’t travelling this far instead of testing my patience at the other. Heh!

Just changed my theme yesterday. Although I was more inclined to get a paid one but I have yet to find any suitable ones. So, all I did was did a quick search in Google, downloaded it, did a lil tweaking here and there and walla, it’s done! I think. It’s a lilllll more blue now (my favourite colour, btw) and best of all, it is FREE! Yay!
