It has been known that Kuchai Lama can be notorious for two things; abundance of food outlets and massive traffic. Most of the time, it is the hardship of finding a parking lot during peak hours that gets the better out of me despite wanting to eat something around that area. But sometimes, the rule ‘can’t find one, make one’ had to be applied during desperate times just like in this case when I dined at this restaurant.
Yummy Duck has been around for years but it was only last month I got to try them. It is quite well known for two things; its noodles and well, roasted duck! One could spot them when passing by the major road of Kuchai Lama. It is located a few shop away from Papa Rich and Taipei Walker and it is opposite of Alliance Bank and Maybank.
Despite its slight grandiose outlook with displayed roasted meats and visible kitchen at front end, the pricing was surprisingly cheap.
For a plate of plain wan tan noodles, it costs only RM3. Toasted in soya sauce, onion oil and pork lards, the fine noodles were cooked to perfection; springy and light.
To go along with the noodles, a plate of three types of roasted meats (RM28) would be best pairing. Of the three types, my vote goes to the roasted duck. Crispy skin with juicy meat, it was a delight to have them with the noodles. I didn’t really like the char siew while the siew yuk (roasted pork belly) was a-okay; crispy skin with adequate fat-to-lean meat ratio. They do sell the whole roasted duck for RM55 and they do sell roasted goose as well.
With the chef hailing from Hong Kong, the motherland of wan tan noodles and roasted meat, one could not possibly go wrong with this restaurant. But as I said in the beginning, parking is a nightmare. So, do what Malaysians do best, double parked if you need to but at least, have the courtesy to leave your mobile number or be vigilant at all times.
