Just realised I’ve not posted anything for more than 3 months. Well… things have been rather eventful (or maybe not). And these things (of work and personal) have been keeping me occupied for quite a bit that I have not been able to attend this space for quite some time.

Fai Kei HK Style Wantan Mee

Anyway… let’s kick off the first post for year 2014 with a simple post about wantan mee stall which I have been patronising quite often lately. Not only this particular stall is really close to where I am staying (to be exact, it is a few hundred meters away from this fishball noodles stall), it has the type of noodles which I like for this simple yet hearty plate of noodles.

Wantan Mee Stall, Happy Garden

Nested in the midst of wai sek kai (food gluttony street) along Jalan Lazat 1, this unassuming stall opens from 8am until 5pm. If you arrive before the opening hours, you will probably get to see them roasting some delicious pork meat (char siew). And yeah… that’s the owner right there standing #likeaboss while waiting for our food to be prepared by one of his workers/partners.

Wantan Mee

A simple bowl of wantan mee with barbequed pork and wantan (pork dumplings) would set you back around RM6. It may be a little expensive for street food standard but the price, especially in Kuala Lumpur, is reasonable for the quality and portion of the noodles.

Wantan Mee

Acclaimed to be Hong Kong-style with unique kneading technique, the noodles are cooked to perfection; crisp and springy with a good bite to it. The brown sauce, hidden beneath the pile of noodles, has a mixture of dark soy sauce, lard and fried shallot oil (and maybe a hint of sesame oil) to complete the noodles.

Wantan Mee with Wantan (Dumplings)

When I’m there, I would normally go for wantan mee with wantans only (RM5.50) because I just love their wantans. Bigger than average, it has the right mixture of minced pork, fats and chopped prawns in it.

I’ve yet to try most of their selections but with their noodles and wantans, I’m pretty much satisfied with my bowl of noodles already.
