I’ve passed by this restaurant a couple of times whenever I made my way to Waterfront. Situated in Warisan Square (a shopping complex), Fratini offers nothing but authentic Italian cuisine. From what I know, it’s managed by a group and Fratini first appeared in Brunei. And years later, it has expanded to other places such as Sarawak and Sabah in Malaysia.

Restaurant Layout

With its modern outlook and duo entrances, it didn’t take long for me to give this restaurant a try. Besides, I was having Italian food craving for a long time didn’t know what to eat at that moment.


A glance thru the menu, there were over 20 types of pasta and pizza to pick from. One would be puzzled on what to order and to make matter worse, most (if not all) of the dishes are in Italian names. However, having said that, there is a short description below each of the dishes.

Cannelloni Di Pollo E Funghi

This is Cannelloni Di Pollo E Funghi. I was having a hard time to pronounce it but in the end, I just pointed and showed it to the waitress. Basically, it’s a baked home-made pasta tube filled with roasted chicken and mushrooms and covered with cream cheese sauce.

Honestly, I kinda liked this dish. The sauce was good as it wasn’t overly cheesy yet not too rich. There was ample amount of filling in between those pasta tubes. But the fact that they stated it was home-made pasta tube, from the looks of it, it didn’t really exhibit as one. It was pale in colour and it was kinda tasteless. IIRC, an authentic pasta has to be egg-based. The usage of egg makes the pasta yellowish in colour.

Fettuccine Carbonara

On the second (other) night, I went back there again to try out other dishes. This time, I opted for Fettuccine Carbonara. With the usage of egg yolk and Parmesan cheese, the sauce was tad richer compare to the previous dish. I loved the fact that they used fettuccine instead of spaghetti for this dish.  With gracious amount of beef rashes, they weren’t chewy at all. If only they use the real (pork) bacon instead.

With the exception of the proclaimed ‘home-made pasta’, the overall experience was just alright. The ambience was comfortable and quiet while the food was good. Although they have pizza in their menu, I didn’t try them out for some reason. But then again, I was only there for two nights and the price isn’t quite ‘attractive’.

    There is another secret ingredient that makes the carbonara stand out, an important one actually for the modern recipe: the white wine.
    Now I am perth-sick again.
