bookmark_borderLunch At Cedele, Wheelock

It was rather a heavy downpour when I reached Orchard Road from Raffles City Shopping Centre. I was cursing my luck as there was a flash flood on previous week and I was fearing that it might happen again (but luckily it didn’t!). Restricted to indoors only, I made my way to Wheelock – via underpass – to hunt for some food to feed my hunger.

Cedele

And that’s when I remembered that there was a good restaurant inside there, all thanks to my friend who brought me there on my previous Singapore trip. A restaurant named Cedele.

Cedele

Situated on third floor of Wheelock (a shopping mall along Orchard Road), Cedele serves some simple yet healthy western food. Ranging from soups to salads as well as pastas, main meals and desserts, the ingredients they used are all fresh and natural.

As it was rather late afternoon, there were only a few customers when I was there. Shown to my seat at a quiet corner, I begun flipping thru their menu and set upon what to have.

Mango Lassi

To quench my thirst, I ordered a Mango Lassi. It was chilled, thick yet smooth but somehow, it was rather tasteless. It would be perfect if they add more mango pulp in it to give it a distinctive flavour.

Penne in White Mushroom Cream Sauce

For the main, Penne in White Mushrooms cream sauce was my choice. The pasta was cooked perfectly – ala al dente – while the cream sauce, unlike carbonara sauce, was light and tasty, just the way I like it to be.

Penne in White Mushroom Cream Sauce

Best of all, there were abundance of beef bacon bits and mushrooms in it. A perfect comfort food for cold rainy day, if you ask me.

Caramelised Banana Pancake with Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream

To complete the meal, instead of their sinful-looking cakes, I opted for something else; Caramelised Banana Pancake with a scoop of Blueberry Cheesecake ice cream. Slight crisps on the outside while light and fluffy in the middle with caramelised bananas hidden in between, the pancakes went well with the ice cream and chocolate drizzle.

Overall, it was a satisfying meal. The price was reasonable as their food were all notably good. This coupled with warmth quiet ambience made it all warrant for another visit.

bookmark_borderLunch At 486 Baba Low’s, Bangsar

Getting sick and tired of the choices of food that are available around my office area, my colleague and I would normally have an intense debate pitch in some ideas daily on where to have our lunch… with tight budget in mind.

486 Baba Low's

So, on one fine day, other than the expensive food court which serve mediocre food, my colleague suggested Baba Low’s, a shop located in the midst of quiet residential area in Bangsar. Piqued by the name, it’s no brainer whether I agreed to the suggestion judging by the title of this post. Heh.

486 Baba Low's

Open for business on weekdays only (I think), this particular shop serves Nyonya food. Basic homey meals such as noodles, rice, and light snacks are all available in the shop – as displayed / wirtten on their large chalkboard as shown above.

Nyonya Laksa

Since I’m more of a noodles person, I opted for their Nyonya Laksa (RM5), so as my colleague. The broth was rich and packed with flavours and it wasn’t as spicy as it looked to be but it was sufficient to spur up one’s appetite without having to numb the tongue. If only they were generous with their toppings / ingredients, that would make it all perfect!

Popiah Peranakan

Apart from that, we ordered a roll of Popiah Peranakan (RM3) for sharing. Although it looks almost the same as the ordinary ones, that can’t be said in terms of ingredients they used.

Popiah Peranakan

No wait… Apart from the special homemade sweet sauce they used, most of the ingredients are identical. Cooked turnips, fried shallots, shredded cucumbers, egg strips and etc wrapped together in a popiah skin, it was moist and nice.

Cendol

Nothing to shout about this bowl of chendol (RM3). I reckon there are better ones out there.

Now, I’m not sure how does a real Nyonya cuisine tastes like and hence, I can’t really judge on authenticity of their food. However, I do know that it’s quite good on its own even if it doesn’t follow the book (Nyonya style). Moreover, the price were quite affordable or at least it’s hell lot cheaper than the expensive food court I mentioned earlier.
