These macarons are by far the most expensive I’ve ever purchased. For price of RM30, these specially-crafted set of four macarons are too gorgeous to be eaten. But then again, there’s no point of keeping since I’ve already paid for them. If you need to know, they are available at Crumbs + LuxBite booth outside of Isetan, 1st floor in 1 Utama shopping centre until 25th December 2012.

Crumbs + Lux Bites Macarons

Sorry, there are no up-close photos of each macarons because they disappeared into my stomach before they managed to enjoy the basking sun. Anyway, I liked the light airy texture which worked wonders with the simple yet interesting fillings. There are 2 sets with various fillings in it (checkout their facebook for more info). I opted for the one with teddy bear and snowman (although I really like the Santa Claus too!).

Now, I’m not a big fan of (super) sweet food, but surprisingly, these macarons fair pretty well on my ‘sweet-o-meter’. They are way less sweet than I thought they would be and the ones I had over the years, albeit in small amount. But for such price, one would think it’s ridiculous to pay for a box of four pieces of macarons. But hey… whether it’s for festive season sake or one off purchase as a gift, one could not really argue about the price after looking at these pretty sweet confectionaries.

So, do you have any favourite macarons? Do share with me!

If you mention any popular spots for ‘nga choi kai’ (bean sprout chicken) to the locals, they will probably cringe at each name you are going to utter. And they will probably show you the ‘talk to the hand’ sign in order for you to stop talking. Or maybe they will ignore you for the good of humanity.

Okay… maybe I have overly exaggerated that perception but I might be right as the famous ones are overly famous and commercialised that the other lesser known, better ones are better than them in terms of quality and taste… just like this one; Fifteen Tower Tauge Chicken

Fifteen Tower Tauge Chicken, Ipoh

I got to know this stall via a photo post in facebook and it was advocated by a friend of mine who is an Ipohian. It’s the same person who introduced to me Keng Nam Coffee Shop. As they say, the locals know better than the tourists which is probably quite true as we found out that this stall offers no frills, simple yet delicious ‘nga choi kai’.

Bean Sprouts by Fifteen Tower Tauge Chicken

Insanely crowded are probably non-existent words to describe this place as most of their customers are of the locals and very little few are tourists. Despite that, securing a seat during peak hours is still a challenging task. The tables and chairs are as what you get from typical old school food courts; a mix of round and square aged plastic tables and variety of old chairs.

As for ordering system, just grab a place and a waiter will attend to you shortly. Just like Restoran Cowan Street Ayam Tauge & Koitiau, they only serve flat noodles (kuey teow); dry or soup.

Poached Chicken by Fifteen Tower Tauge Chicken

Poached, sliced and drizzled in a concoction of soya sauce and oil, the chicken meat was firm yet retaining its essence and juices even for chicken breast. The plump, crunchy bean sprouts were blanched before being drizzled in the same mixture as the poached chicken.

Flat Noodles (Kuey Teow) by Fifteen Tower Tauge Chicken

The bowl of silky smooth flat noodles (kuey teow) was just a-okay because the soup was wee bit lacking.

The total bill for the meal above was RM9 for 2 pax. Pretty cheap I guess judging by the portion and number of items. There is a satay stall nearby but we did not get try because he was busy attending to large orders at that moment. We shall return again to try it while waiting for our comforting ‘nga choi kai’ meal.
