Somewhere along Lebuh Pantai (Beach Road), there is a food court named Sri Weld Food Court which houses various hawker food stalls. It is pretty tidy and surprisingly airy, cooling even when the weather is scorching. I couldn’t exactly remember how I found this food court but I’m glad that I did.
In the food court, there are plenty of stalls selling typical local delicacies such as beef noodles, char kuey teow, wantan mee, hokkien mee, fried rice and etc. But there is this one particular stall which I’m so fond of that I made a point to visit them whenever it’s possible.
Parked at the main entrance of the food court, this particular stall named Ali Nasi Lemak Daun Pisang sells nasi lemak bungkus. The best part or maybe visually appealing part of it is that it is wrapped in banana leaf. The amount of banana leaves they use pretty much put other nasi lemak bungkus stalls to shame. It is as though they own a banana plantation solely for this purpose only.
They “assemble and wrap” regularly to ensure the food stays fresh and warm. There are four types; fried chicken, fried fish, sotong and ikan bilis (anchovies). They all priced the same; RM1.70 per packet. You are free to pick as many as you want as long as you pay them after that.
Wrapped in thick leaf, it has all the basic necessities of a nasi lemak; rice, sambal, quartered egg and your choice of meat. However, don’t be surprised to find none of ikan bilis and peanuts if you bought the chicken, fish or sotong because that’s how they #roll. The rice is fragrant and fluffy but the sambal takes the front seat of the packet. Fiery red in colour, it is really spicy and it gives you the much needed kick after the second scoop. I tried the fried chicken and sotong. Both of them were pretty tasty especially for the fried chicken.
Oh… the drink stall sells pretty mean cup of kopi peng (ice coffee) too.
