There were two things I did when I was in Penang for holidays; food hunting and cafe hopping. The former, it was mandatory activity when one is in Penang, the glorious island of good food. As for latter, I unintentionally found myself visiting 6 coffee joints in span of 3 days.

It was rather odd as I seldom visit any coffee joints in Klang Valley and I’d never spend that obscene amount of money just on coffees alone. But, I did… and I still struggling to find out why I did so.

Pop Art at Brew Thirty Two Coffee House, Jalan Green Hall

Brew Thirty Two Coffee House was one of the cafes I visited and it was my last stop on my last day in Penang island before heading back to Kuala Lumpur. It’s rather easy to locate this place with its rather unusual pop art at the entrance. I bet it got quite a fair bit of customers’ attention.

I liked this place on my first impression. It was rather simple and neat. The place exuded comfort and laid back ambiance. It was brightly lit up with hanging bulbs and natural light. Everything gels together making it it’s the place to go to for some quiet time.

Their menu was simple; main meals, beverages and cakes. There could be more but I didn’t look any further after I found what I wanted; a cup of cold coffee and a slice of cake.

The service was tad slow. But there was no rush as I was relaxing on one of their Ikea-like lazy chair. The coffee and a slice of mille crepe came at the same time.

The coffee was rather good, to my rather non-fussy standard. Each sip of Iced Butterscotch Latte (RM10.90) left a bitter sweet note while the Iced Hazelnut Latte (RM10.90) was on the sweet nutty side. That aside, the shot of coffee (or maybe two) in each cup was there to mark its presence; bold and strong.

The Nutella Banana Crepes (RM12.90) was rather dense, but still delectable. The sliced banana was placed neatly between sheets of crepes. Due to its freshness, it was rather easy to slice with edge of the fork. It wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be which was a good thing. The subtle taste of the banana worked well with the chocolate.

Overall, I prefer this place over the other coffee house down the road if I’d go for the calm ambiance. The coffee was good so was the cake.
