Old Tricycle Charcoal BBQ Yong Tau Foo has been around since the beginning of the year. Folks went gaga about this place even though it serves yong tau foo only. The interesting twist offered by this stall, to some many, is that you get to play grill your food at table side. And this is what got the crowd raved about this place in and out.

Old Tricycle - The Original Charcoal BBQ Yong Tau Foo, Taman Desa

There were a few tables occupied when we were there at about 615PM. But what I heard from close friends of mine is that crowd starts to flock in at about 7PM. So, it was lucky for us to secure a table easily and got our orders taken within minutes. The menu was straight forward as there were ala cartes as well as set meals. It’s best to go for their set meals as you get best most of the items at affordable price.

Charcoal Pit

With the portable charcoal pit placed beside the table, you’re free to do whatever you want with your food but it is best to pay attention when grilling as they will turn to black carbon within minutes.

The yong tau foo with stuffing were coated with the same sweetish sauce. It felt kinda one dimension but that’s just me.

Curry Chee Cheong Fun with Pig Skin by Old Tricycle - The Original Charcoal BBQ Yong Tau Foo, Taman Desa

If there’s one thing I like is the stuffed pork bacon because it’s bacon! We went for extra order as well as the crispy fried foo pei (bean curd skin). The curry chee cheong fun with pig skin was delectable.

Drinks by Old Tricycle - The Original Charcoal BBQ Yong Tau Foo, Taman Desa

Overall, the experience was a-okay. The total bill including extra orders and drinks came to about RM53. We smelled like burnt moving objects after the dinner but we expected that to happen. Now with this off the list, it is time to explore Taman Desa further as it is just 10 minutes away from where I live.

With all the hype going around, I bet most of you have heard (or even tried) of this restaurant; whether via blogs or word-of-mouth. It is a well-known Korean BBQ restaurant in Malaysia that has expanded rapidly across Klang Valley (and even in Penang too!); with its latest addition in Sri Petaling.

Daorae

And honestly, I have no idea they have so many branches! Anyway, here are the photos…

Banchan

Soup

As usual, banchan were served upon ordering. I reckon there were 10 types on that day. The (appetizer) soup was quite alright. A lil sweet yet spicy did tingle my tastebud and kick up my appetite.

Grilled Meat

Meat

Meat

Unless they overcook it, I guess nothing could go wrong with grilled beef and pork belly. They were good as the waiter cooked it prefectly.

Pancake

Steamed Egg

Although the pancake was on the cold side, both of them were alright. Nothing to shout about.

Bulgogi

Consists of thinly sliced beef, vegetables and glass noodles, Bulgogi was probably the favourite dish of the day. Slight sweetness yet flavourful, this classic dish is best served with rice.

Kimchi

The kimchi was rather a disappointment. Although I ordered a seafood version, the bowl was filled with tofus instead. There were only a pinch-ful handful of seafood in it… and an egg. Furthermore, it wasn’t spicy at all. Not a single bit. And it’s kinda tasteless and oily. I had better ones and this is not one of them.

Sauce

All in all, it was alright for a first timer like me. The dishes were good except for the kimchi as it failed to make the cut. My (and probably my friends) gripe is their “Minimum 2 servings for grilled / barbeque meat”. I don’t know what’s the reason behind it but I don’t think it’s wise to force customers to order a minimum of 2 servings to enjoy them.

List

Moreover, they didn’t refill any of our banchan. Maybe we should remind them. I don’t know. But seriously… shouldn’t they be more alert and refill whenever they see any empty plates? Hhmm… Maybe I should just stick to my other usual Korean BBQ restaurants for now…
