As they say, your Ipoh trip isn’t complete until you’ve tried their white coffee. Okay… maybe I just made that up. But hey… since we were already in Ipoh, we might as well look for it, right? We googled about it and most websites / blogs showed us to this place; Kedai Makanan Nam Heong.

Kedai Makanan Nam Heong

Situated around 5~10 minutes drive away from Restoran Foh San, this quaint little coffee shop has lots of food stalls in it. With little round tables inside the coffee shop, it was kinda hard to get a place to sit even when we were there during not-so-peak hours.

White Coffee & Egg Tarts

We had to skip the noodles as we were pretty full from the breakfast we had earlier and hence, we ordered a cuppa with some egg tarts to go along.

White Coffee

Somehow or someway, I liked the one (white coffee) done by Nam Heong coffee. Thick, aromatic yet smooth, its sweetness was at the right level. Best of all, it costs RM1.50 per cup only. The egg tarts (RM1.40 per piece) were good as well. The pastry was flaky and light while the filling was smooth yet not overly sweet.

Egg Tarts

We spent about 20 minutes or so at this coffee shop before we adjourned to the final pit stop before heading out of Ipoh.

Funny Mountain Tau Fu Fah

Leaving some empty space for the final round of ‘stuffing’, we arrived at the famous tau fu fah shop; Funny Mountain. This tiny little shop has magically attracted hordes of customers with its silky smooth tau fu fah. We arrived at the right moment as they were about to start selling. No queues. No crowds. Fresh tau fu fah. Bliss… 3 bowls of goodness with 1 small bottle of soya bean set us back about RM4.40.

Tau Fu Fah

With our stomachs filled to the brim, we left Ipoh happily knowing that we had what we intended to have… as according to the plan.

We arrived Juru toll at about 1230PM just in time for lunch, even though we were still from the heavy breakfast. As the check-in time for our hotel was at 2PM, instead of crossing the Penang bridge to get to the island, we detoured to Bukit Mertajam area in search for lunch. Sure… there are ample of food restaurants in Auto City but what we were looking for was rather simple food. I read about it over here and what attracted me to it was the simple concoction of meat and rice.

Chicken and Pork Rice Stall Bukit Mertajam

Even with the help of GPS, the journey to the said stall was longer than expected. It took us about 15 minutes drive as it was rather deep inside of Bukit Mertajam. Located along Jalan Danby, it takes lil effort to look out for this stall as it is pretty hidden / covered sight. What’s more is that there’s no signboard to indicate the stall’s name. Having said that, fret not as you might able to spot this stall like how we did by the sight of streams of customers waiting to be served.

Chicken and Pork Rice

Priced at RM3.50 per plate, the steamed rice is piled under generous amount of shredded chicken and pork meat. The slight sweet gravy has a little garlicky taste yet it has faint hint of caramelised onions in it. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as starchy as it looked to be.

Chicken and Pork Rice

By the end of the meal, we told each other that our next meal would be late at night as we couldn’t eat anymore. We checked in our hotel, rested till dusk before we headed out to Gurney Drive hawker centre in search for our dinner. But sadly, after having our meals there, we vouched that the said hawker centre was overrated (read : tourist trap). There’s nothing fancy about the place as it was packed to the brim and the food wasn’t as good as we thought it would be. The only thingy we did finish was the fried chicken skin and apoms. Other than that, the food was just ordinary / edible. Or maybe we ordered the wrong items. Anyway, I did not take any photos about ‘em. Oh yes… we did watch Tron : Legacy late at night at GSC Gurney Plaza. But no thanks to their incompetence / “time management”, the movie started 45 minutes late. Bohoo…
