As many (or probably health freaks only) said, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Somehow or some way, it supposedly kick start to your day. Maybe it works the same like how coffee works for coffee addicts. And that’s the reason why I have my breakfast lately.
IIRC, I wrote about this when I brought Robin to this place on one fine Saturday morning. Anyway, I’m writing again. Hehe. One thing I like about this place is that it isn’t packed (to the brim) on weekdays morning and it offers above average dim sum at reasonable price.
Apart from that, unlike other usual dim sum restaurants, this particular steams the Har Kow upon receiving order from customers. It’s a good thing since I don’t really like mine to be tasteless and the skin falling apart (due to prolong steaming / cooking action).
Back in the old days, I used to ‘ta pau’ 2 plates of Siew Mai before I go to school. At that time, the owner was operating at Happy Garden. It was (and is still) my favourite dish of all time in dim sum cuisine. With good amount of minced pork meat, a lil bit of lard and prawns, the texture was firm yet tasty.
Apart from all those, they do offer one type of congee / porridge only; Lean Meat & Century Egg Congee. But, having said that, their version is total different from those you normally get from other places. Not only they have pork meat and century egg in it, there are normal hard boiled egg, mini prawns and dried oysters too. Add them all, and you get a bowl of tasty porridge. I doubt they ever need to put MSG at all.
Besides, to load on carbs, one must not miss out Char Siew Pau. It is one of the must-have dumplings whenever you visit a dim sum joint. Different place offers different taste, and I guess the ones offered by Pang Ki aren’t too shabby at all.
As you can see, there’s slight sauce in the filling itself. The bun was soft too. When you are at it, don’t forget to try their Red Bean Paste Dumpling too.
Other orders consisted of Bamboo Roll and Fried Pork Dumplings. Nothing to shout about but not too bad either. I reckoned there are better ones out there.
Last but not least, I’ll order a Prawn Chee Cheong Fun without fail. Though it is not as good as the ones offered by hotels or bigger restaurants, they are good enough for my tastebuds. The prawns weren’t that big but it’s alright to me. No complaints.
All in all, though they are not one of the best, Pang Ki offer above average yet affordable dim sum. And truthfully, they are better compare to the ones located behind this shop. Don’t be surprised that on weekends, it is swarmed by hordes of hungry dim sum lovers but lucky for me, I’m only there on weekdays morning, before my work starts.
