Choices are abundance when it comes to food selection in Mid Valley Megamall (including The Gardens Mall). However, if one takes the cost of each meal into consideration, problem will arise as the choices will be limited to just a few; namely food court, fast food and probably kopitiam. And we all know the reaction we get/show after having a few rounds of the same type of food at the same place.

Italiannies

But thankfully, there are a handful of the restaurants that offer set meals; let it be lunch or dinner, in order to capture a bigger crowd who want something more fulfilling (to the tummy) and yet not hurting their wallets/purses at the same time. There are quite a lot (of restaurants) that I know of that offer set meals during peak period. And one of those is Italiannies whom is well known for its hearty Italian food at affordable price.

Italiannies, The Gardens Mall

I first came to know about this offer when I walked past their signboard moons ago. Then, I didn’t take it seriously as I was either rushing to somewhere or too full (from a meal) to think about it. For RM15.90 (onwards), one could get a soup or salad, main course and a bottomless Pepsi. That’s a pretty good deal I would say.

Italiannies Let's Do Lunch Menu

The menu is pretty extensive as it offers salads, pastas and pizza. What’s more is that there are dishes that cater for vegetarians too! Besides, I was surprised that the portion was pretty decent… as you know, many places will most likely to cut down on the portion due to “the value of the set meal”, if you know what I mean. After all, Italiannies is famous for its big portion meals.

Mushroom SoupMushroom Soup

The soup of the day, which was Mushroom Soup, was pretty good. Unlike those that you normally get at fast food outlets, their bowl of soup was filled with bits and chunks of mushrooms. Fragrant, tasty yet adequately soupy, it went well with the free pillow-soft breads that they usually give as appetiser/snack.

Ham & Mushroom Pizza and Classic Carbonara

With the given options (click here to look at the menu), Classic Carbonara and Ham & Mushroom Pizza were selected from the menu.

Classic CarbonaraClassic Carbonara

Being a big fan of fettuccine (and any broad-type of pasta), it’s no brainer that I will automatically order one if given a choice (and freedom). The pasta dish faired pretty well as the parmesan cream sauce was rich and nice, coating each strand of the al dente pasta evenly. It’s good to know that they didn’t skimp on the ingredients as there were good amount of beef bacons and sliced button mushrooms in the dish.

Ham & Mushroom PizzaHam & Mushroom Pizza

Although the portion of the pizza was not as big as one would get in ala carte menu (I think), it was good enough to be shared among two pax. The ingredients of the hams and mushrooms were slightly less (I expected it to be such, anyway), but it was alright as the smothered tomato-based sauce and mozzarella cheese were tasty. It’s akin to eating a Magherita Pizza (without the basil, of course) with the hams and mushrooms playing the supporting role. Nevertheless, it was still good as the pizza crust was doughy yet sufficiently thin to eat it like New Yorker style.

Italiannies, The Gardens Mall

All in all, for RM15.90 (onwards and excluding tax), I honestly think the set lunch offered by Italiannies is pretty good deal especially those craving for Italian food during lunch time. Their set lunch is available from 12PM to 5PM on weekdays. I couldn’t recall any other restaurants offering such a long period/duration for a set lunch meal.

It was our first night when we passed by this restaurant as we were strolling along Ao Nang beach. Then, it was packed with customers that we were determined to make a visit the very next day or so. As they say, if a restaurant is packed with patrons, the food should be good. That’s what we thought.

Azzurra Authentic Italian Restaurant

Located along Ao Nang beach, it’s hard to miss this restaurant as it’s one of the better decorated restaurant – with table and chairs arranged in orderly manner. What’s more was that their environment was comfy with warm lightings donning in the restaurant.

Azzurra Authentic Italian Restaurant

We arrived rather early as we were at Ao Nang beach to witness the sun set. Since we were their first customer of their dinner service of that day, we got to pick our sit according to our liking and the waitress handed out their thick extensive menu.

Azzurra Menu

Their menu consisted of bruschettas, pizza and pasta. But there were other dishes as well such as steaks, salads and seafoods. Having tough time deciding what to eat, we looked at their menu before opting for something simple.

Coconut Shake

Iced Tea with Lime

Priced at 100 Baht per drink, they – Young Coconut Shake and Fresh Lime Iced Tea – were refreshingly good for warm weather.

Ravioli con Panna e Proscuitto

We were rather disappointed with the portion of Ravioli con Panna e Proscuitto (340 Baht). The tiny raviolis were compact and dense with pork filing in it. The rich cream sauce was delicious with imported hams in it. Only if the size of the ravioli or the portion was bigger, the dish was slightly overpriced.

Fruitti di Mare (Seafood Pizza)

Topped with decent amount of ham and seafood such as prawns, mussels and squid, Frutti di Mare pizza was alright. At 300 Baht, it was at reasonable size – about 8 inches. Due to their mediterranean style / flavour, the tomato based sauce was slight creamy than usual with slight tang to it. Like how a pizza is served in Italy, it came uncut that we had to slice it on our own according to our needs. But sadly, the pizza dough was tough / chewy and hence we had tough time cutting it. My friend commented that the dough was like a cold piece of pita bread. Heh!

Tiramisu

Tempted by the ‘Homemade Tiramisu’ written on the chalkboard inside the restaurant, we went ahead and ordered one portion.

Homemade Tiramisu

At 160 Baht, the so-called homemade dessert was just edible. It fell short of what’s to be called a tiramisu. The coffee-soaked cake texture was rough while there was lack of mascarpone flavour in it. It’s essentially a normal cake with cream on it. Thank goodness I’ve got no high hopes for the dessert.

Azzurra

The bill came to 1000 Baht (on the dot). I didn’t particularly like the dishes although the ravioli was alright. The pizza dough fell short although it was ‘thin crisp’. The service was slow as it took awhile for our food to arrive although we were the first to order when there was no other customers in the restaurant at the moment. Oh well, we should have had less expectation since we were at tourist hot spots.
