Inspired by a blog post I read from somewhere, I have decided to list out my favourite haunts for sharing purpose. This blog post by no means have I tried each and every hawker stalls in Malaysia. Instead, these places are the ones I usually frequent to on weekly basis (some of them) and they are solely picked based on my preference. Therefore, it is best to treat this with a pinch of salt and perhaps, let me know where you would usually go for a good bowl of pork noodles. So, here are the places;
Restoran Hong Cha
This place needs no introduction as it is pretty famous in Klang Valley, I think. They operate in the morning and evening/night at two different locations. This one is their night business at the comfort of their own shop. What I like about them is that they are quite generous with their ingredients. Even if you order a normal portion (RM5.50), they would load your bowl with minced meat, sliced meat, offal (intestines, livers and etc.), seafood and greens. Or if you’re feeling greedy hungry, you can go for the premium and ask for add-ons just like this one.
I find that the broth, despite its pork goodness, leans towards the sweetish side rather than savoury and there’s noticeable hint of MSG in it. Besides that, the minced meat has more fat than lean meat while the texture of it tends to be slight mushy (too much flour, I guess). Nevertheless, it is still satisfying enough to gobble them all…
Oh… did I mention that they charge extra if you opt for fully cooked egg instead of poached egg?

Restoran Mei Sin
I have been patronising this coffee shop for god knows how long. Back then, this pork noodles stall had been shifting places (prolly due to location and other reasons) around Imbi before they settled in this coffee shop.
Despite the broth lacks of ompphh (if you know what I mean), it is their minced meat that make me come back over the years. The minced meat has good lean meat-to-fat ratio and the inclusion of flounder fish makes it really moreish. That said, a bowl of minced meat and an egg (without any noodles) would cost RM6.70 which I think it is kinda pricey. A normal bowl with noodles would cost around RM5 to RM6.

DS Chua Brothers Coffee Shop
Just like the one above, I was introduced to this stall over a decade ago. Back then, it was located at other coffee shop nearby before the stall owner decided to shift to current location.
As you can see, the meat and noodles are scant in a significantly big bowl. But what makes it good is the broth which is quite flavoursome despite its appearance. A small bowl would set you back around RM5. Parking can be atrocious but once you found one, you will be rewarded with good affordable hawker food. This stall is also famous for its Loh Lou Shu Fun (which I wrote about it over here).

Peter’s Pork Noodles
This has got to be one of the famous pork noodles stall in Klang Valley and it has been around for ages. I used to visit this place when I was working at around KL Sentral vicinity. Back then, once-a-week visit was quite a norm when my ex-colleagues and I would walk down to this place during lunch time for a bowl of goodness.
For RM5, you will get a bowl of noodles (of your choice, but unfortunately there’s no yee mee) filled with generous amount of minced pork meat (which consist more of lean meat), sliced meat, offals, vegetables and a poached egg (optional – without it would cost RM4.50). The broth is what it has probably made this stall famous; dense and savoury, infused with pork essence and preserved vegetables (菜哺). The broth is that delicious that on most occasions, I’d emptied the bowl without hesitation.

Restoran Win Heng Seng
Despite being listed here, this stall isn’t one of my favourite stalls of them lot. Sure, the broth meets the requirement. But for RM7 (the latest price I paid), the portion and ingredients given did not justify the price even for its prime location.
As shown above, there are only 4 to 5 tiny cubes of minced meat, a couple of sliced meat, offals and vegetables. To ‘glorify’ the bowl of noodles, it is served in rather huge bowl with plenty of soup. The noodles are submerged deeply and are just mouthful; insufficient even for normal eaters. That said, it is still famous amongst pork noodles lovers for whatever reason it may be.

So, there you go… my favourite pork noodles stalls in Klang Valley. Most of them opens for breakfast and lunch except for Restoran Hong Cha. Again, these are not the best of the best of the best in Malaysia and therefore, feel free to share your favourite stalls!
