Despite its unassuming appearance in a bustling area of SS15, Hungry Hog is no stranger to folks who are accustomed to cheap, decent porky western food. It has established itself as the place to go to for some simple western / eastern comfort porky goodness. There are, of course, other places that offer similar cuisine / style such as the one in Aman Suria or Dataran Mentari, but truth to be told, I have yet to try them… sadly.

Hungry Hog, SS15 Subang Jaya

I have visited this place twice and on both occasion, I was there for lunch on weekends. Locating place requires slight experience but then again, with the existence of Google Maps, it should be as easy as ABC.

Hungry Hog's Menu

Its menu is pretty straight forward with appetisers, main courses, pastas and burgers occupying the same page. There are probably two or three eastern dishes in the menu while the rest are of western type. Click here to view their menu.

Siew Yuk (Roasted Pork Belly)

The Siew Yuk (RM11.90) was not fantastic but it was not bad either. It did not have the oh-melt-in-your-mouth texture like the one in Pudu but rest assured that the skin was crackling goodness.

3 Little Pigs Pork Burger

On both of my visits, the 3 Little Pigs (RM15.90) was picked/ordered without hesitation. It has streaky bacon, ham, pork patty, melted cheese and caramelised onions piled on top of one another and sandwiched between a burger bun.

While I liked the combination of salty savoury pork patty and cheese with sweet caramelised onions, I wished they were more generous with the patty (thicker or wider) as it was lacking.

French Fries

The bun was nothing great but the fries were crisp and piping hot when served. The side salad was there, perhaps, for presentation purpose as there was no dressing on it.

Pork Ribs

Came in rather large portion, the Pork Ribs (RM27.90) was probably the most expensive dish in the menu. Although the meat was nicely seasoned and was easily separated from the bone, it was slightly dry to my liking. The good thing was the char siew sauce was not overly sweet yet adequately flavourful.

Iced Lemon Tea

Unfortunately there are no photos of Bangers and Mash (RM15.90), my friend and I liked it. The herbs and spices used in the sauce were apparent but it did not overpowering the overall dish. The pork sausages were of good quality while the mashed potatoes were slight chunky, flavourful.

Decorations

Overall, there were hits and misses here and there. The ambiance was fine with lots of piggy momentos and photos placed as decorations inside the restaurant. The prices were reasonable for its portion and quality while parking can be a hassle on weekdays and/or during peak hours.

Prego, The Westin Kuala Lumpur

This is gonna be a short post of a meal I had recently. Nested in Westin Hotel, Prego is one of the better and well known Italian restaurants in Kuala Lumpur.

Prego, The Westin Kuala Lumpur

It is also the place to go to if you have some serious cravings for Italian food. And unlike Pizza Uno, it placed itself as the higher end of Italian cuisine.

Bread

As usual, like any other fine dining restaurants, fresh loaf of bread was served while waiting / upon seated. Crusty on the outside and pillow soft on the inside, it went well with the tangy tomato sauce and / or olive oil-vinegar dip.

Calamari Fritti Salsa Tartara

The Calamari Fritti Salsa Tartara (RM30) fell short of being moreish. Despite its delish tartar sauce, the fried squids were slight chewy texture. The batter was fine; crunchy and light. It’s just the squids that pulled everything down.

Pappardelle Al Ragu

With my fondness for broad pasta, it’s no brainer that I opted for Pappardelle Al Ragu (RM56). The adequately thin pasta sheets were cooked nicely and coated evenly with slight tangy tomato-based sauce. There was abundance of fork-tender braised goat meat to go alongside with the pasta but due to tardiness of kitchen staff / cook, there were a couple of tiny bones hidden in the braised meat which was kinda off-putting to the comforting pasta dish.

Prego, The Westin Kuala Lumpur

All in all, Prego managed to live up to its hype. The meal was alright if it were not for the chewy squids and tiny bones. The ambiance was great with attentive staffs fulfilling customer’s request. It is definitely worth going back again…
