My one night stay at Corus Hotel did not include dinner. Not wanting to splurge on Japanese meal at Komura in the hotel which is known for its buffet and unique ambiance, I decided to drive out to a destination where I had been longing to try.

Ampang Tandoori and Naan Stall

… and that destination was none other than a stall which is said to serve delicious tandoori chicken and naan bread. It is situated opposite of Ampang Point (across the main road) and the stall is sharing the vicinity with other food stalls. Unlike other hawker places which I have been to, you are free to sit at any table and order anything from those stalls and they will serve you without any objection.

Tandoori Chicken in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur

This particular stall (some called it Arumugam Tandoori & Naan) has been around for years and with its specialities, they only serve a variety of naan breads, tandooris and masala dishes. If you are craving for roti, you can proceed to another stall… which I did to order a piece of roti pisang.

Famous Tandoori Chicken in Ampang

Apart from the roti pisang, the food didn’t take long to arrive. First up was the tandoori chicken (RM5) and butter naan (RM2). Slightly charred at the edges, the meat was pretty flavourful albeit dry (for the breast part). It is definitely better than any other regular mamak stall at your neighbourhood… unless you are near to Pak Putra in Malacca.

The butter naan was surprisingly thin… thinner than I usually had at other places. But it was not as thin as chapatti. Nonetheless, it was still fluffy soft and fragrant from the overdose of melted ‘butter’ on top of the naan.

Roti Pisang and Chicken & Beef Satay

Crispy with loads of sliced banana hidden beneath, the roti pisang was pretty good. The chicken and beef satays (from other stall – RM9 for 10 sticks) were rather ordinary. The peanut sauce was wee bit watery and lack of kick.

For some reason, I got few hotel vouchers lying around in the house and one of them entitles to one night stay at Corus Hotel. It was going to expire soon and so, I had to use it before it goes to waste. Clearly understood with the terms and conditions of the voucher, I made my reservation via telephone which was fairly simple as the person handling the call was friendly and all.

Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Corus Hotel is perhaps one of the established hotel chains in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It has been around for years now and it has undergone refurbishment recently to keep with the modern times. It is located along Jalan Ampang, diagonally to Suria KLCC shopping mall. It will take around 5 to 10 minutes to walk from the hotel to the shopping mall.

The hotel does provide shuttle service for hotel guests to other popular destinations such as Bukit Bintang. Other landmark near to the hotel is the ever famous Nasi Kandar Pelita which is the situated opposite of the hotel. For the uninitiated, Corus Hotel is also one of the pickup points for Aeroline – a business class coach service to and fro Singapore.

Common Area at Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

For a hotel, it surprising that the indoor parking lots at Corus Hotel are kinda limited. It could barely fit 50 cars in the basement and around the hotel. Nevertheless, hotel guests get to park for free with validated parking ticket at the reception counter.

The check in process was relatively quick and simple. It took less than 10 minutes to get hold of my key card and breakfast vouchers. Although there are only 12 floors in the building, there are plenty of rooms per floor to cater huge crowd. The first 2 floors are common area such as gym, spa, swimming pool, conference/meeting rooms and restaurant.

Hallway at Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

My room is located at the 10th floor. Despite being a non-smoking floor, I could still smell a whiff of burnt tobacco when I walked towards my room. Luckily, to my relief, the deluxe room I got was cleared off the scent although there was slight musty odour, I must say.

Deluxe Bedroom

The room is carpeted and decked out the usual furnitures; cupboards, dressing table, coffee chairs and table and a queen-size bed with four soft pillows. Apart from those, the fridge and safety deposit box are hidden in their respective cupboards.

Amenities by Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The usual basic amenities are provided; coffee, tea, bottled water, kettle and etc. Any extra is chargeable. Apart from WiFi, there is LAN cable at the dressing/working table for internet connection. But sadly, they weren’t free (according to the leaflet in the room)… even for such established hotel.

Side note; I still can’t fathom why, at this time and age, some prominent hotels with exorbitant rate still charge their guests for internet usage. Shouldn’t the service be free by now?

Anyway, back to the room… the bathroom. Tiled and clean, there is a bathtub with non-moveable shower head attached to the wall. The usual toiletries are provided, all neatly arranged beside the sink.

Breakfast at Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The buffet breakfast venue is held at Dondang Sayang. The spread wasn’t extraordinary on that day nor was it any bad. Although the cafe was packed with hungry guests at peak hour, it wasn’t as bad as what I had experience here.

I don’t have any complaints about the room or the hotel. Even if I have one, I shouldn’t complain since it was free night stay. I reckon it is quite a good deal (RM235++ a night according to their website) given the location and condition of the hotel.
