‘You’ve got to be kidding me’. Those were the same exact words that ran across my mind when the food was served. At the price they were offering, I knew they would be skimming on the portion size but I did not expect them to go the extreme. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a blog post about my experience at El Meson and its voucher.

I am sure you aware of the density of group buying sites that are available right now. And I am sure most of you had a fair share of the buying spree due to its irresistible deals. Well, I did purchase a couple of times from various sites due to my itchy hands. One of them was this deal by El Meson (sold through Groupon) whereby for RM15 (a 53% discount of RM32), one get to choose either their famous The Ultimate Pork Burger (Pork, bacon, mushroom and cheese burger with homemade fried potatoes) or Classic Minute Steak (Aussie rib eye minute steak with chunky fries). Good deal, ain’t it? Well, I was eager to try them years ago every since I heard and read good stuff about their pork burger and bla bla bla. And when this deal came up, it was no brainer at all as it was the opportunity to try them. Google them and you get to see photos of them all.

After all the delaying, reservation was made at the very last minute. I got to give credits to them as they extended the redemption period for another 2 weeks due to popular demand.

To sum it all up, small pathetic portions aside, the meal was alright. The so-called ‘Ultimate’ Pork Burger could be better if they did not skim on the toppings, like what I saw from other blogs and websites. The bacon was pathetically small and the sliced mushrooms can hardly made up to one complete button mushroom. The burger resembled somewhat a quick, sloppy job. The good thing was the pork patty itself; well seasoned and perfectly dense. The less-than-5-millimeter-thick minute steak was sightly chewy even though I asked for it to be cooked medium. I could imagine it would be tough as rubber if I opted for medium well. The Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms were decent; filled with minced beef and topped with melted cheese. But for the price of RM18, I would think twice if I were to order them again. The Iced Cappuccino RM10) was just below par. If my guess is correct, the portion would not be the same like this if you pay in full. For RM15 a pop, I guess I should not have set any expectations at all. Oh well…
