I have read and heard of Ichiro Sushi Bar one too many times over the years but yet, I have not paid a visit until recently. They have been in current vicinity (inside Isetan Eat Paradise, 1 Utama Shopping Mall) for quite some time now and some said they serve one of the best (and freshest) sushi in town.

The vicinity has a sushi bar and a couple of tables which, at max, able to fit around 20 pax at one time.

The ordering was made easy as there was iPad at each table/ party for their usage. Their menu was simple, no-frills yet it has all the usual, mandatory offerings.

We were there slightly past 2pm which made us missed their lunch menu. We had the kaisen bara chirashi, 3 slices of fresh salmon sashimi, egg nigiri and DX Volcano Roll.

Kaisen Bara Chirashi

The Kaisen Bara Chirashi (RM28) was filled to the brim with fresh cuts of sashimi, prawns, fish roes, pickled gingers and cucumbers. Underneath all was the sushi rice dosed with slight Japanese soy sauce. Though it was a little steep in price, you would have forgotten about it the moment it arrives in front of you.

Salmon Sashimi

The salmon sashimi (RM18 for 3 slices) was thicc and fresh while the DX Volcano Roll (RM32) was exceptionally as it topped with fresh scallops, kani (crab) and a dose of Japanese mayonnaise.

Japanese Food at Ichiro Sushi Bar

Overall, the meal came to about RM103 (including a cup of cold green tea). Price wise, I guess you get what you paid for and in my opinion, it was definitely worth it though it would not be a weekly nor monthly affair.

It was my last day in Singapore and with few hours to spare, I followed my sister to the city to run some errands before going to the airport. Given an hour or so, I was left alone strolling around along Orchard Road.

Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant

And that’s when I stumbled upon Watami, a Japanese restaurant which sounded really familiar to me, when I was bumming around lost inside Ion Orchard. It took me quite awhile to recall as I remembered I read about this Japanese restaurant from somewhere.

Thinking it would be good to grab a quick bite before my flight, off I went inside without a second thought – since the review I read about this restaurant was good. A quick flip through their menu, I set upon and ordered two items…

Wafu Hitokuchi Steak

First up was Wafu Hitokuchi Steak. Lightly seasoned bite-size steaks were cooked to perfection, retaining its flavour inside while remained tender and juicy. Pardon me for the poor photo quality though.

Salmon Splendour

The second dish was Salmon Splendour. It’s a bit of everything – 3 types to be exact – that consist of salmon.

Salmon Sashimi

Salmon Splendour

There weren’t any complaints as the salmon was fresh and the remaining two were kept simple and nice.

Watami

Pride as the Japanese casual restaurant, I guess they did it nicely as the price was alright for the food they serve. Not only the staffs were friendly, the waiting time was reasonable – although it wasn’t fair to judge as I went there pretty late afternoon hours (off peak).
